Strike in Rennes was a success
More than 100 employees took part in the the strike on April 17th. Considering that a part of the workforce is on holiday, about 2/3 of the work force were on strike.
What follows are in part notes we have received from Rennes. A video about this grill-party is here
The initial report by a colleague from Rennes can be found on the site Notre avenir ist ICI, "Our future is HERE". It is called Divide ut regnes - Divide and Rule.
The message of solidarity from Networks Solidarity went down well. The colleagues appreciated it.
An indication of the success of the demo is that management are making the first overtures to the workforce.
- The number of jobs lost will still the same - 217 in Lanion and 218 in Nantes/Rennes - 500 in total in the BD Convergence
- A small group of 60 people should continue to work on mobile video.
The second proposal is absurd as more than 200 employees are needed to properly manage the competencies.
What is unclear - and the colleagues in Rennes see the proposals with mixed feelings - is whether they are real are just intended to dampen down the struggle. Be that as it may, management are obviously trying to play the oldest game in the book - divide and rule: A carrot for the mobile video group and a kick in the backside for everyone else.
The colleagues themselves have described the offer as petty, devious and with a certain degree of hope.
We hope, too, that these proposals are the first indication of something better. It is no accident that in Germany we are also seeing attempts to play the same game. The newest proposal in Nuremberg is to temporarily employee those apprentices who finish this year. Management is also waving the carrot of new projects and, at the same time, insisting that the number of redundancies can and will not be changed.
To be continued.
