Siemens Joins Via Licensing's LTE Patent Pool
---------------------------------------------
Global technology leader added to growing pool of companies in Via’s licensing program
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 19, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Via Licensing Corporation today announced that global technology leader Siemens AG has joined an impressive pool of innovative companies as the newest licensor in Via’s industry-leading LTE (Long Term Evolution) wireless licensing program. Via’s LTE licensing program offers the industry a fair, transparent, and cost-effective means to obtain a license to all LTE and LTE-Advanced patents of its licensors that are essential for the deployment of the LTE standard in their products.
Siemens is well known as one of the world’s largest technology leaders in the areas of electrification, automation, and digitalization. Siemens is also a recognized pioneer in the area of mobile communications and still owns a substantial part of standard essential patents in that field, as a result of having invested billions of dollars in wireless technologies and being an active participant in that ecosystem.
“We are delighted that Siemens has joined our LTE pool, allowing us to include Siemens’ standard-essential LTE patents as part of our license offering,” said Joe Siino, President, Via Licensing. “The addition of Siemens provides valuable strength to Via’s LTE patent pool, and builds on the significant momentum the pool established in 2017.”
Products and services that use LTE technologies include smartphones, tablet and laptop computers, the Internet of Things (IoT), and automobiles. Companies offering their LTE-essential patents through Via’s licensing program include AT&T;, China Mobile, Conversant Wireless, Deutsche Telekom, Dolby, Google, HP, Innovation in Ariscale, KDDI, Lenovo (including Motorola Mobility subsidiary), MediaTek, NTT DoCoMo, SK Telecom, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, and Verizon.
