Not only did they smile... but they clapped and thanked him for it. Will they still be clapping when they are the ones to go?

nice and smart, he knows how to close subsideries with a smile and those People who are fired even smile back......for a while.

What do you expect? Considering the way how A.Bass announced the "restructuring" A.T. was the first person from TEG brave enough to show up at Regensburg. And BTW - IMHO clapping can alo be sarcastic... At least A.T. knows about his image, and the people are knowing that he knows...

Whether you clap your hands or not doesn't make a big difference. You're either gone or you stay with the remaining people at Toshiba.
There are other ways of communicating an opinion except for clapping your hands. So if anybody did have something to say during or after Alan T's speech, there was time to talk.
The amount of staff remaining at TSC has gone up to 62. If you're not one of them then your function is either not needed anymore or it can be done by an outsourcer for less money. Or you're not a buddy of one of those people who have an influence on the decision who will still be needed and who not.
If you're one of the 62 you should probably ask yourself how long this business will be able to survive without making good enough profit if the only idea the management has is to save more cost in service by sacking staff and giving their functions to outsourcers.
If you're not one of those 62 you should mostly be interested in when you will be fired and also in a proper agreement between our work council and TEG regarding the redundany money you will get and whether there will be a PTG or not.
I would be less concerned about the clapping hands topic.
Alan is a christian - see this evidence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CpA1rmr3sE
What would be the actual situation, if he wouldn´t one !?
